Program Overview

Broad academic scope
Closing the gap between business and IT is not the easiest thing to do, not only for the participants (students) but also for the teaching staff. Professors of both Nyenrode Business University and Delft University of Technology will work closely together within each module, challenging the participants to broaden their scope (to de-specialize) and to enhance their skills. The combination of the two top universities offers you the broadest academic scope you can think of. This scope will be further increased when other European universities get involved.

Demand-driven
CIO Academy and EuroCIO are the founding fathers of the program. They will also be responsible for organizing the demand side of the educational market for CIOs. They will also act as advisors to the academic staff, thus safeguarding the aim of the program to provide a new generation of CIOs. This link between supply and demand will foster a productive and enduring dialogue with CIOs and other C-level executives about the future CIO’s profile.

Modules
The program consists of ten modules, eight of which have roughly the same set-up. The work load of each of these eight modules is spread over six months (spring or autumn).
Students who have relatively little time for study can take one module per half year. Those who have more time available can follow two or even three modules concurrently. Hence, the throughput time of the whole program can vary from 2,5 years to even 6 years.

Mandatory sessions
Each of these eight regular modules has three class sessions, each of which will be held on two consecutive days and will include evening sessions. In order to successfully complete a module, attendance at all sessions is mandatory. The writing of a paper concludes each module. Between the classroom sessions there will be a month to six weeks for self-study, readings, discussions and writing.

Enhance your network
It is true that this program does not have fixed groups (cohorts). Due to modularity, you will meet up till a hundred other participants, allowing you to enhance your network.

E-learning platform
The program’s E-learning platform supports activity between the face-to-face classroom meetings and consists of virtual classroom meetings, learning content, lecture presentations or seminars, industry business insights, online communities for leaders in business, peer directories, and discussion forums.

Special attention to leadership
In the module entitled “Leadership and Cooperation - in complex international networks” you will work on skills in leadership and cooperation by means of games, simulations and feedback discussions with coaches and your fellow participants. From the start of the program you will be able to work on these skills using our unique virtual learning environment, which consists of management and leadership courses, Harvard Business School Publications, inspiring CEO and CIO stories, seminars, and industry business insights.

Project-based learning
In every module you will be challenged to apply your newly-acquired knowledge to a specific problem or issue in your own organization. You will redesign business processes, set up or improve your portfolio management system, calculate the created value of strategic IT applications, review contracts with suppliers, and much more. Your organization will immediately profit from your new insights.

International study trip
Part of this MBA program is an obligatory international study trip (10 days). Many participants combine this week with the leadership module, but they do so for practical reasons only. You may join the trip whenever you want.

Thesis module
Writing your MBA thesis is the program's master piece. This module will take more than one year, in which you will dive into a specific matter of your interest. Your thesis must have both academic and business relevance. This module includes a presentation workshop, in which you will enhance your presentation skills.
