Nyenrode Finance Day on the Financial Landscape of the Future
On Friday, 19 November the Finance Day will be held again at Nyenrode, organized by the Nyenrode student investment association ‘De Zilveren Rijder’. Last year’s financial congress focused mainly on future investment, but this year the focus will shift to economic developments. The credit crisis and the financial situation, with which various EU governments have to contend, have had their effect on the financial sector. As a result, the financial landscape will change radically in the future. On the day, a variety of speakers will present their vision of these economic developments. They will also look back upon the ‘golden age’ before the credit crisis. The speakers will include Diederik Schmull (former Vice President of Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley), Han de Jong (Chief Economist at ABN AMRO) and Martien van Winden (CEO of Hoofbosch Beleggingsfonds). For more information, visit http://www.dezilverenrijder.nl/NFD.html

Broklede Highschool - Nyenrode Partnership relating to Sustainability
The Broklede Regional Highschool and Nyenrode Business Universiteit, both based in Breukelen, have started a project in which 28 enthusiastic VWO finals candidates from Broklede will write their practical assignments on the theme of “Our sustainable future”. Within the framework of this theme, a number of challenges facing the global community will be highlighted, such as climate change, micro-financing and food scarcity. During the project, the students will not only deploy the knowledge they have acquired through their practical assignments, but also make direct acquaintance with various facets of the academic world. For example, Nyenrode will organize a number of themed meetings for the students in question and contribute to their practical guidance. More information, contact: t.bullens@nyenrode.nl.

Masterclass ‘Sustainable Innovation in the Agro-food Sector’
On 15 and 16 November 2010, Nyenrode will hold a masterclass in partnership with TransForum and Ynnovate on sustainable innovation in the agro-food sector. For this purpose, Taco van Someren and André Nijhof have studied nine radical innovations in the sector. These nine innovations received guidance and support from the TransForum innovation program. Value creation based on sustainable innovation is proving to be a troublesome process, with deep troughs between the successes. In this masterclass, the lessons on successful sustainable innovation are explored with an interactive approach. Furthermore, the masterclass focuses on allowing participants to relate these lessons to their own practical experiences. See (in Dutch) the site.

On the contrary, CSR in Action! is about developing new ideas in order to embed CSR in practical activities. For more information, visit www.nyenrode.nl/csr

Study of talent management: managers often put brake on mobility
Research conducted by the training and consultancy agency Vergouwen Overduin, in cooperation with Nyenrode’s Center for Talent Management, shows that ‘political’ considerations significantly influence the way in which managers handle talent in an organization. The study also shows that talent management is still not a strategic theme for the vast majority of organizations. Read more about the research results (in Dutch).

New Book by Sharda Nandram on Kautilya's Arthashastra
Our leaders, politicians, managers and business people often reflect insufficiently on wise lessons from countries that are apparently weathering the crisis with ease, says Dr. Sharda Nandram. If they were to do this and study, for example, the advice that Kautilya formulated 2,400 years ago, the Netherlands could have a better quality of life. Kautilya lived in India in the 3rd Century B.C. He is famous for his book, the “Arthashastra”, which deals with economics, financial and strategic management, politics and entrepreneurship.
