Biography

"Serving society by shaping responsible leaders is a mission that fully resonates with me. Based on this starting point I develop impactful programs in the field of sustainable business."

André Nijhof is Professor Sustainable Business and Stewardship at Nyenrode Business University. He is part of Nyenrode's Faculty Research Center for Entrepreneurship, Governance & Stewardship.

Nijhof is passionate about meaningful work: "But what makes our work meaningful? When we feel it contributes to something bigger than us. Or more concrete, when our work step by step improves the balance between the negative and positive impact we create with our activities. In relation to all the topics included in the UN Sustainable Development Goals."

As a professor in Sustainable Business and Stewardship André loves the opportunity to learn about these topics by research and to deepen these insights in educational settings. Much of his recent work has focused on embedding long term value creation in the core processes of an organization. How can we generate good business, that has a positive impact on society and makes our working life more meaningful? And how to combine this with good financial results, not as an objective but as a logical result of good business?

Nijhof finished his PhD at the University of Twente in 1999. He is a former chairman of the Dutch Network on Business Ethics and was a project leader in the national research programme on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the Netherlands. André was director of the Full Time Master of Science in Management program and is appointed as full professor since January 2016. He has published extensively in international journals like Journal of Business Ethics, Corporate Governance and Leadership and Organizational Development Journal.
