Prof. dr. Haico Ebbers is Professor of International Economics at Nyenrode Business University. He is part of Nyenrode's Faculty Research Center for Entrepreneurship, Governance & Stewardship. Ebbers studied International Economics at the University of Groningen, where he graduated cum laude in 1987. In 1991, he started his career at Nyenrode, where he obtained his doctorate in 1995. He has been a professor at the university since 2004. Over the years, he has held various positions within Nyenrode, including:
- Chairman of the board of examiners
- Chairman of the curriculum committee
- Director public governance MBA
- Co-director IMBA-EMBA
- Founder and chairman of the Nyenrode China Institute.
Ebbers is seen as one of the leading voices in the field of Chinese economic development and economic relations between the European Union and China. His research focuses on topics such as international trade and foreign investment.
In 2011, Ebbers, in collaboration with J. Zhang and J. Zhou, published the article “Completion of Chinese overseas acquisitions: Institutional perspectives and evidence” in International Business Review. In 2018, this article was named as one of the 30 most influential articles on the topic of Chinese multinationals.
His latest book on China was published in 2019: 'Unraveling Modern China' (World Scientific Publishing; WSP). The book provides a comprehensive overview of the many transitions currently taking place in the Chinese economy.
In November 2022, his book "The rise of New Economic Powers and the changing global landscape" will be published, also published by WSP. In this book he shows how fast the rise of large emerging economies is going and what consequences this will have for the globalization process. At the moment Ebbers is working on a study of the main characteristics and success factors of Chinese companies in foreign markets; a project that will be published in book form in 2023.
