Biography
Prof. dr. Ivo De Loo is professor of Management Accounting & Control at Nyenrode Business University. He is part of Nyenrode's Faculty Research Center for Accounting, Auditing & Control.
De Loo received his doctoral degree in quantitative economics from Maastricht University in 1995 (cum laude), and obtained his doctorate degree from the Open University of the Netherlands in 2008. Before accepting his current position, he was Professor of Accounting at Aston Business School (Birmingham), Professor in Management Accounting & Control, Head of Research, and Program Director of the PhD-school at Nyenrode Business Universiteit, and Senior Lecturer in Management Accounting at the Open University of the Netherlands.
De Loo is interested in how management accounting and control is enacted in organizations, using insights from practice theory and the application of visual methods in particular. He has also developed an interest in research methodology over the years.
Currently, De Loo is confidential counselor of scientific integrity at Nyenrode Business Universiteit. Since April 2022, De Loo (in cooperation with professor Roland Speklé) is academically responsbile for all degree programs in Controlling at Nyenrode.
International activities
Together with Prof. Alan Lowe (RMIT), De Loo received the Mary Parker Follett Award Outstanding Paper Award (2017) for the following paper: “[T]here are known knowns …” Some reflections on the nature and practice of interpretive accounting research, Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, 30(8), 1796-1819.
Between 2017-2019, De Loo has also been the conference co-chair of the Management Accounting Research Group (MARG) conference at Aston Business School, together with Prof. Elaine Harris (University of Roehampton). There are multiple research projects with international colleagues in which he is involved.
De Loo received the best reviewer award in 2023 from the Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal.
