From October 1-4, a group of nine Full-time MSc in Management students are representing Nyenrode at the International Gas Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia. While there, the students will attend the Youth Day: a dialogue of generations on topics related to the gas industry. Here they share the story of how they’ve prepared for the event.

Nine Nyenrodians present

''We are Bart, Stefan, Nurjahan, Bas, Agnes, Robbie, Olivia, Alejandro and Justine, all students from the MSc26 cohort of the Full-time MSc in Management program. We’ve just started working on our respective theses, but next week we’ll be putting our research on hold for a few days to attend the Youth Day of the International Gas Forum in St. Petersburg."

"As part of the event, we will attend ceremonies, take part in interactive workshops on topics such as digitalization in exploration & production, sit in on a plenary session discussing the role and significance of natural gas in the energy balance of the world economy, and get the opportunity to pose questions to CEOs during a no-tie meeting. The overall theme of the event is Digitalization in the Energy Sector, a very relevant topic in every industry nowadays."

Selection process

"To get an invitation to the Youth Day, there were several steps we had to go through. In addition to sending our CVs and a motivation letter, we each had to complete an individual assignment on digitalization in the energy sector. The assignment was to analyze several companies which have already implemented digitalization, discuss the outcomes and compare the companies and their digital practices. After a while, we finally received the message: Congratulations, you are invited!"

MEGA CASE for Team “The Dutchies”

"Based on the individual case, six of us (Nurjahan, Olivia, Bart, Stefan, Bas and Justine) were selected to be on the Dutch national student team to participate in the Youth Day 2018 Case Contest. We feel honored to have the opportunity to present our ideas to an International Expert Committee and a large audience."

"We received the case at the end of August, and from that moment we got straight to work on the MEGA CASE “Advanced Natural Gas Future”. Just like the individual assignment, the case zooms in on digitalization but emphasizes diversification as an important factor as well. To prepare, we held several working sessions in which we brainstormed and performed various analyses. The organization also assigned us an inspiring coach from the Energy Delta Institute in Groningen. He helped us to organize the teamwork and challenged us to dive deeper into the case and come up with solutions that are not so obvious."

"We feel prepared and ready to present our ideas and solutions to the jury. Four other national teams will compete in the Case Contest: Russia, France, China and IBS’s international team. All have proven to be strong contestants in previous years, so the competition will be intense! Nevertheless, we are excited to accept the challenge and push ourselves to a new level."
