Carlijn Soer, Full-time MSc in Management student, looks back at the Jazznight experience last November.
''Saturday November 4, 2017: Oh what a night! The NCV event of the year: alumni return to Nyenrode and you can invite friends to have a great time on campus.
The theme of this year’s Jazznight was ‘Cotton Club’. So, think of Roaring 20’s or Great Gatsby. The theme itself already made us excited.
The preparations for the ladies started early. A friend of mine had some stress with her dress. So, we had to apply our ‘just-in-time-management’ skills to make sure she would shine that night.
Luckily, Breukelen is located very closely to Amsterdam and Utrecht. So, it was easy to find a life-saving store and get her a new dress.
Hair, make-up, jewels, the perfect heels, dress: all check. Let’s go!
We started the night at Slangenvegt, a nice restaurant located close to campus. The NCV committee in charge of the Jazznight also arranged a diner at this restaurant. My friends and I thought this would be a good start of the evening.
We arrived at Slangenvegt. Everyone was flabbergasted by the outfits and accessories. It was a true Cotton-Club gathering. After dinner it was time to go back to campus for the real party.
The Jazz-night Committee had turned the Coach House into a real Cotton-Club taking care of every detail.
On the outside, they built a big tent with several bars. Inside, there was a big stage for the live artists and several bars as well. Some true A-artists were entertaining the crowd. Nyenrode’s very own Booze (music band) also played numerous sing-along songs on stage.
Seeing your own friends playing live music is actually a lot of fun. By the time all the live performances were over, a dj took over the stage.
Just image: there were people wearing black-tie outfits, open bars, food trucks, live artists, a dj and a Taittinger-bar. Besides, we were surrounded by our friends. We truly had the time of our lives at this party. I am already looking forward to next year’s Jazznight!''
