In memoriam - Prof. Mr. Steven Schuit

Steven Schuit has passed away in March 2025, at the age of 82. 

Steven Schuit was Emeritus Professor of Corporate Governance and Responsibility at Nyenrode Business Universiteit and professor of Corporate Law and Business Transactions at Utrecht University. He was on the board of several (listed) companies. He was also chairing several not-for-profit organizations. He was member of the board of Grotius Academie, a high level post graduate education for practising lawyers. He was partner at the global law firm Allen & Overy until 2005 and was counsel to this firm. Previously, he was partner at Loeff Claeys Verbeke (as from 1975). He was the senior resident partner for this firm in New York from 1980 to 1990.

Steven has been legal counsel to the board of several international corporations and institutions for cross border mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures. He has assisted major corporate clients and financial institutions in advising and negotiating international transactions in various parts of the world including the US, Russia, Latin America, Japan, China, Korea and the Far East. He was also lecturing corporate, banking and pension fund governance and was an advisor to several boards.

He published frequently about corporate-, banking- and pension fund governance. He wrote "The Chairman Makes or Breaks the Board".
